  • 2017 Bookish Resolutions and Reading Challenges

Posted at 9:15 am by Laura, on December 19, 2016

    2017bookishresolutions

    Major Goals

READ 50 BOOKS || To quote last year’s post, “easy peasy.” Though it has become a bit more of a challenge the last couple years , I’m looking forward to reading 50 published books.

READ 5 LIBRARY BOOKS || I’ll automatically read 24 books this year with the library (12 for the book club I run, and 12 for the genre study book club I’m in), but I want to read (deeply, for fun and entertainment) books that aren’t assigned to me that I’ve been curious to read.

READ MARILLIER & GABALDON || Flights of Fantasy by Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books || This harkens back to an epiphany post from a few weeks ago. I want to get back to my bookish roots, which involved a lot of binge-reading — of authors, of series, of genre. Juliet Marillier’s Sevenwaters series, her new Blackthorn & Grim series, and finishing Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series (of what’s published, at least) are at the top of my reading list. This automatically qualifies for Alexa’s fantasy challenge, too!

    Bonus Goals

READ CLASSICS & REREAD FAVORITES || I was woefully terrible at this last year, and I still aim to read more classics in general. I also didn’t reread many of my favorite novels. Instead of putting a number goal on there (and potentially disappointing myself at the end of 2017), I’m aiming to at least read one of each!

READ MORE FROM TBR, LESS FROM ARCS || Rock My TBR by Sarah @ The YA Book Traveler || I don’t have a general number for this one, but I do want to make more of an effort to read all those books I’ve purchased and was very excited for. This means being pickier about ARCs as well. While I didn’t read as many ARCs in 2016 (which was a goal), I did end up neglecting many ARCs I received.

What are some of your goals for 2017?

I have a similar list! I definitely want to read more from my physical TBR and make it a point to reread more often. I do such a bad job with both of these!

These are some great goals! One of my goals is actually to read less books in general – I feel like this year it’s become kind of an obsession, and while I truly do love it and see nothing wrong with reading large numbers of book, I kind of feel like I’ve neglected some of my other hobbies, and I really want to refocus on some of them next year.

Good luck achieving these, and I hope you have a wonderful year in 2017. ❤

So pleased you’ll be joining us for Flights of Fantasy in 2017! And I think reading all of the Marillier is a very, very good idea 😉 I have so many of her books on my TBR, so I may have to join you in doing that. Also, I haven’t posted my official resolutions post yet, but I definitely plan on reading more classics (especially ones I own) AND reading more of my own books. Good luck with everything! You can do it! ❤

I think these are great, very reachable goals! I want to read more library books as well, especially since I have a great library down the street from me. And I also want to reread more favorites (without guilting myself about it) and more of my owned TBR. I was so excited about everything I’ve purchased and I want to give them their due, and potentially weed out my collection as well if I don’t end up loving some of them. Good luck!!!

Weeding out the collection is definitely a top priority. I might’ve been super excited when I purchased the book, but am I still excited about it, or simply hanging onto it because I feel obligated to?

My constant dilemma, the guilt complex. What if I get rid of it and it could have been a favorite? But there is just not enough time in the day.
