  • The Accidental April Book Haul

Posted at 6:45 am by Laura, on May 8, 2015

    April was a Hot Mess.

Not just with the massive amount of ARCs I read, but the number of books I acquired, as well. I didn’t fully realize how many I acquired in one month till I rearranged my bookshelves (again). My instagram shot got a lot of feedback — and there were so many books, I forgot to picture one as well! Since then, I’ve acquired four more. EEEK.

Not pictured: The Royal We, Rook, Miss Mayhem, Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke, and Wondrous and the Wicked.

    Free Books!

I received these books from editors and giveaways.

    Guilt-Free Purchases!

When I read an ARC and love it, I go and buy the finished copy.

When I get a super nice tax return, I browse bargain selections at the store or on Book Outlet.

Then I search for UK editions of books I’ve had my eye on for a while to justify the shipping and conversion fees (and save the rest for later, of course. I can be a fiscally responsible adult!).

My poor bookcases…but look how pretty these are!

What did you acquire in April? Have you had a large book haul recently?

I didn’t acquire nearly as many books as you on my last book-buying splurge. You’re going to have lots of fun reading this summer. I really loved Belle Epoque when I read it. Hope you do, too. Happy Reading! 🙂

Thanks! I’m doing some more and more research on YA historical fiction, and I seem to be finding lots of gems. Glad to hear it’s good!

Believe me, this book haul is way out of the ordinary!

Wow, you got some great books! I’ve been wanting to read How to be a Heroine, but I haven’t read all of the classics it discusses so I’m waiting until I know more about what it’s talking about. Happy reading!

That’s a great idea! I’ve only read maybe half the classics the book mentions, but I know the others well enough to get by. Need to refresh my Thomas Hardy heroines, though!

Wow, I am super jealous of the amazing books that you got! How did you find Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke? I personally thought that it suffered from second book syndrome a bit. I have to say, I prefer the US edition of Prisoner of Night and Fog. The cover of the UK version looks a bit generic and bland.

Social Sex sounds like an interesting read. I’m definitely going to check that out. Also, I’ve been meaning to pick up Belle Epoque for ages now but I never get around to it, haha.

Happy reading and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these titles!

Conspiracy should be front listed at Barnes and Noble. I was impatient with my store though and special ordered it in. As for the UK cover, are you from the UK? I usually prefer the UK covers to books. They’re so different from American design.

Oh my goodness – you’ve acclaimed quite the haul in April! (And SO MANY good books.) I just finished reading Vanishing Girls, and now I’m on to Emery Lord’s The Start of Me and You. I’ll be eagerly awaiting book reviews for these!

      Love the blog, Laura. 🙂

Oh, I’ve already reviewed The Start of Me and You! Absolutely loved it. Based on my hometown, too 😉 Hope you like it!

Vanishing Girls will be read one day! I’m so behind on my Oliver books…
