  • Top Ten Tuesday: Popular Authors I’ve Never Read

Posted at 8:30 am by Laura, on March 4, 2014

Top Ten Tuesday, a concept started by The Broke and the Bookish, is a themed post that connects bloggers to bloggers, bloggers to readers, and readers to readers. Every Tuesday has a special topic, and this Tuesday is Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read

    top ten tuesday

    The Oldies
    Ernest Hemmingway and Kurt Vonnegut

    The Brands
Nora Roberts (that’ll change, though!), James Patterson, John Grisham, David Baldacci

    The Awarded
Kate DiCamillo (that’ll change!) and Rainbow Rowell (that’ll change, too!)

    The Ones Advertised Everywhere
    Marissa Meyer and Sara Shepherd

Which authors have you never read? Apart than the ones I said were changing in the near future, do you think I should pick up a book by any of the other authors? Which book and why?

I’m a big fan of Hemingway. His short stories about Nick Adams are a good place to start and see if you want to take on a longer piece.

I’ve read my share of Hemingway, but no Vonnegut either. Nor James Patterson or John Grisham. I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday in a while…maybe I’ll give it a go.

I’ve never read James Patterson either, although my mom has been trying to get me to read some of his books, maybe I will eventually give him a try.
Rainbow Rowell is amazing, I highly recommend any of her books 🙂
      Great list and happy reading!

I’m going to start FANGIRL soon! Have you read all of Rowell’s books?

Yes I have! Fangirl was a lot of fun, but Eleanor and Park was my favorite.

Read several of Vonnegut’s books in high school, didn’t enjoy them one bit. I’ve seen Grisham and Patterson on a lot of lists. Interesting…

I read and loved Rowell’s Fangirl last year, and have the rest of her books on my TBR. I highly recommend them!

Here’s my TTT for the week. Happy reading!

I’ve noticed Grisham and Patterson on a lot too! Makes you wonder about the reading demographic of the blogging community — are we the wrong age group? the wrong interest group? both?

I’m picking up Fangirl tonight and can’t wait to start!

There are an awful lot of female bloggers (which is kind of cool and kind of lame at the same time), and both Grisham and Patterson have always struck me as writing political intrigue. Maybe it’s just not our collective cup of tea?

Ooh, I hope you love Fangirl!

Maybe. I know my mother thoroughly enjoys Grisham and Baldacci, but she doesn’t read them and become enthusiastic over them. For her, it’s like chick lit: something to consume quickly and move on. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Are her PLL books any good? The TV show makes me a tiny bit wary of them.

I’m not sure why I haven’t yet. Her books are fractured fairy tales…why wouldn’t I have picked them up yet? Will give them a try soon.

There are so many people I love on this list I don’t want to overwhelm you with must reads so I’ll settle on one – Vonnegut. He is amazing. A total game changer in terms of thought. Try reading Harrison Bergeron – it’s a brilliant short story that gives you a feel for Vonnegut without the commitment of a novel.
